Pours a pitch-black coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smells of lightly smoked, caramel malt, with a distinct honey and lighter salted peanut note, as well as just a hint of licorice and tobacco. Taste is an excellent balance of lightly smoked, caramel malt and a distinct salted caramel presence, as well as some chocolate, honey and lighter peanut, licorice and tobacco accents. Finishes bittersweet, with a light bitterness and some salted caramel, tobacco and honey notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.
This is an excellent Porter with a rather intoxicating aroma of roasted, honey-glazed peanuts and a distinct salted caramel character, with the nutty, chocolate, honey, tobacco and licorice accents creating quite a sublime balance of sweet, smoky and bitter notes, Overall, a rather enjoyable Imperial Porter with and impressive balance and complexity, although perhaps just a little lacking in body and mouthfeel.
