Our Baltic Porter has robust multi-leveled malt flavors with hints of dark fruit. This cold lagered goodness will have hints of caramel and toffee in the aroma, along with a smooth finish for a high abv beverage. This beer will start sweet then will finish over with a dominance from the dark malt.

This one pours a rich, dark mahogany. Within a Pretentious Glass Company Imperial Snifter, it is black with dark cola highlights. A two-inch, chestnut head transitions from creamy to rocky as it gradually settles to one inch, leaving a dense webbing of lace.
The aroma is sweet and soapy at first. Candied sugar and Maraschino cherries follow, while the expected chocolate is well concealed.
Bittersweet flavor is about the level prescribed from the style. The aroma carries the soapiness into the flavor, while light chocolate becomes more apparent. Chocolate builds with warmth, as does bitterness and astringency from the malt. This one definitely needs to warm considerably.
The medium body has a watery texture and modest carbonation. Alcohol is as expected, as is the mild astringency.
In my opinion, if a brewer chooses to name their beer after such a vivid mythical being, then the beer should live up to the myth. Valkyrie should be much more impressive than my experience of it. This aside, it is a decent Porter. Unfortunately, it is missing the special quality I had hoped for on a brutally cold, mid-January afternoon.
