Served in a flared pokal at the Spirit Water taproom.
I know, based on the name, I figured this would be more of a porter, too, but nope, this definitely veers hard toward the rye component. Allegedly the recipe is also the base for GW Rye Whiskey, but I cannot confirm nor deny such a claim. Anyway, this stuff pours a clear sunset russet topped by a barely-thriving bit of dirty white foam. The nose comprises dark wheat, mild grass, dried maple syrup, and a hint of candied orange peel in the distance. The taste brings in more of the same, the rye character coming out a bit more here, though everything is decidedly earthy in complexion. The body is a rather light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a slightly drying finish. Overall, a nice little rye beer, a welcome respite from the heavily sweet beers surrounding it (gotta give yourself a breather, y'know).
