Stop #3 on my bike tour of the Bamberg area on 28SEP14. Having finished at Hummel, I hopped my bike and rode the long 2 minutes (if that!) down the street to Wagner...
Another typical, solidly-built stone building right on one of the main streets of Merkendorf. Out front were a couple of long benches and tables, and around back can be found a large, very well shaded Biergarten. I parked in the Garten, but did take a peek inside. Through the front door and you'll first come across a small service window, where you can get a Bier to go for the Biergarten. Go right through the door and you get to room #1, a bright, airy room with 10-12 dark wood tables amidst white walls covered with old photos and artwork. Go further back and room #2 is encountered, a darker room with wood paneling and another 8-10 tables. There's a small service bar on the left, and a passageway out to the Biergarten. Another comfy, traditional place.
I found 4 Biers available on my visit; an Ungespundetes lager, Pils, Weißbier, and their Jübilaumsbier. I had the latter, a 0.5l glass for €2.00. Service staff was very friendly all around. Another hidden gem in the Bamberg countryside! Prosit!!
