The Portsmouth Brewery will typically have 6-7 of their own biers on tap, plus usually 3 from their sister brewery, Smuttynose. They may also have a guest tap on, which has seen Moat Mountain and Sierra Nevada as recent "guests". Growlers cost $4.00 for the glassware, then $10 to $18 for the actual brew, depending on the style. Be advised, they don't usually growler any of their stouts. Also available in the pub are 22oz bottles of Smuttynose Big Beers, plus their "Brewers Cellar" offerings, with items such as Chimay and Ommegang. The adjacent store sells a wide array of high-quality clothing, as well as 22oz "bombers" of Portsmouth bier, ranging in cost from $5 to $10.

Many, many visits over the past decade+, never got around to a review... Super fun atmosphere in a busy coastal town. Parking can be a hassle, but a garage is nearby. Usually a good selection on tap and decent food offerings. Would recommend visiting.

Their beers are solid but unspectacular. A decent and varied tap list helps ensure there's something for everyone, from pilsners to stouts to WC-style IPAs. Food menu is quite nice, definitely above average for a downtown brewery.
A nice plus: for every beer you purchase, they give you a charity token. On your way out, you can drop it in one of three charity boxes that they support. Each token is a trifling amount, but it's a nice touch, and you can pick which of the charities you want to support.
Overall, a very solid place. Portsmouth is a fun, touristy area, but not as well known for breweries as nearby destinations like Portland. If you're visiting the area, this is worth checking out.

A great spot for locally-brewed beer in a great location, beautiful downtown Portsmouth. They have plenty of options on tap at all times, but I happened to stop by when they had their special Imperial Stout available, “Royal Impy Stout.” Solid pub food menu, as well. An attractive interior with friendly staff. A must-visit when in town.

Memorable stop in downtown Portsmouth NH. About 8-10 beers on tap consistently with the majority brewed in house , a few from sister Smuttynose, and some guests. Hefty menu gives you lots of options for all meals, very kid friendly. Big selection of beer to go, along with prefilled bottles and of course, merch. Worth a stop.

Terrific place, great beer, nice variety and great food. Bartenders knowledgeable and attentive. If you’re in the area it’s a must stop in.

Exceptionally clean brewpub with a vast tapline of their beers, Smuttynose and a light dose of some other New England offerings. Sometimes during tourist season on weekends, it gets packed and they don't take reservations so I say get there earlier than the meal times. Beer is quite good here, though Kate the Great is retired (I think they bring it every back and again if that dude at Tributary allows them to, haha). Check it out if you're in Portsmouth.

We arrived early and quickly was provided a nice place to sit high in the room. The waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable and we had a nice discussion of the beer available. The food arrived in a timely manner and was well cooked and delicious! Great place, vibe and location!

Great restaurant in a really cool town. lots of good offerings on tap from smuttynose and portsmouth brewing but also some other rare finds. They had bottles of parabola, velvet merkin and sucaba.

Going to the Portsmouth Brewpub, one can expect exceptional service even on the busy days as the management almost always knows how to deal with the crowds. Pretty sure they've nailed it to a tee down to getting people in and out within a reasonable amount of time. I've never had a bad beer here. The food, well, if you don't like the food here, I'm thinking you just don't like food period (have fun starving - lol). What an exceptional place for food and beer. I just need to get there when they bring out Kate the Great out of retirement (oh sigh, when will that ever be).
