Pours a cloudy deep golden amber coloration with a large, fluffy, lasting head. Smells of biscuity malt and tropical/citrus/stone fruit hops with notes of passion fruit, grapefruit and peach, as well as some distinctly herbal accents also coming through. Taste is a great balance of biscuity malt and herbal, grassy hops, with tropical, citrus and stone fruit notes of passion fruit, papaya, grapefruit, lemongrass and peach as well as hints of dill and mint. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some papaya, grapefruit and distinct herbal accents lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This is a somewhat atypical NEIPA, which is a good thing in my book, that has a rather distinct herbal character in addition to the more common tropica/citrus notes, probably due to the Sorachi Ace hops used here, but still manages a nice balance of grassy, herbal and juicy, fruity hop notes. A somewhat experimental brew that is not necessarily going to be to everyone's taste, but personally I rather enjoyed it for its bitter, herbal character and good overall balance. Perhaps a slightly odd combination of hop varities, but it ultimately works, in my opinion, and variety is the spice of life, after all.
