Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus/berry hops, with notes of grapefruit, gooseberry and white grape, with just a hint of pine coming through as well. Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and juicy, fruity, herbal and resinous hops, with citrus and berry notes of strong grapefruit and lighter gooseberry and white grape, as well as distinct undertones of resinous pine and alpine herbs. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit, gooseberry and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This makes for a very enjoyable New England IPA with a great balance of zesty, slightly acidic citrus/berry and earthy, herbal and resinous notes, while finishing with a good bitterness. I really like the harmony of fruity and herbal/resinous notes to this, which works out really nicely here. While those scratch-off panels may seem a little gimmicky, it's still a nifty idea that actually makes for a very interesting and humbling experience. The insults from Monkey Island are just a an added bonus. How appropriate, you fight like a cow!
