Collaboration with Flügge, Blech.Brut.
This is our Collab with our good friends from FLÜGGE, Frankfurt, a modern Double IPA, brewed with HORNINDAL KVEIK yeast. Don't expect an oldskool Double IPA, which wants to break all IBU records. Our goal was a modern, rather fruity variant, which sweetens the day with a pleasant bitterness.
Hops: Simcoe, Idaho Gem, Centennial

Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus, tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit and papaya. Taste is an excellent balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly floral, dank and resinous hops, with citrus, tropical and lighter red berry notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lime peel, papaya, mango and raspberry, as well as hints of herbal weed and resinous pine. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit, papaya, raspberry and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Soft, pillowy mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
While I was a little disappointed with this as a self-declared WCIPA, they do state on their website that their aim was to create a very fruity rather than bitter WCIPA. Which begs the question why to label it a WCIPA in the first place when this is clearly a NEIPA with a certain WC vibe to it. This is a minor nitpick though, as the beer is actually phenomenal, reminding me a lot of Cloudwater's approach to NEIPAs. It's quite juicy, with vibrant and well-defined citrus, tropical and berry notes, but has some dank, resinous undertones to it as well, finishing with a good bitterness. Proof once again that Atelier VRAI (formerly Atelier der Braukünste) make the best IPAs in Germany right now, clearly favoring quality over quantity, as many of the usual suspects do.
