Pours a hazy, orange coloration with a large, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical, citrus hops, with notes of papaya, coconut and tangerine, as well as some earthy, woody accents and just a hint of vanilla. Taste is a great balance of fruity, juicy, slighty herbal, earthy and woody hops, with tropical and citrus notes of mango, papaya, coconut, orange and tangerine, as well as hints of vanilla, oak and mint. Finishes with a light/medium b itterness and some papaya, coconut, tangerine and oak lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
Since I had assumed this to be 6 months old, it came as quite a surprise to me how great it actually tastes. I'm quite curious if I got the BB date wrong or Atelier Vrai are even better brewers than I had already assumed them to be. I find it quite hard to believe that a NEIPA could still be this vibrantly hoppy, with quite well-defined notes at that age though. This is the second IPA I've had with HBC 472 hops now and it really is a fascinating variety that imparts quite earthy and woody accents, as well as hints of vanilla into the flavor profile.
