From the 0,33 l bottle, it pours a aple yellow color with a moderate white head that slowly reduces and leaves lacing. The nose gets some grassy malt. In he mouth, it is a pleasantly malty brew that is easy to drink and calls for another!

Some spiciness in this bock, akin to coriander. Murky golden color with thin head, aroma of pears and malt. Taste has sharp edge to it, tingling the tongue A bit different for a German brew, but not bad.

 

 

Appearance: Crystal clear gold under a snow white head of large CO2 bubbles. Looks like a deep, slightly darker gold than a Pils. Here's the English page for this beer on their website.

Aroma: Strong aroma: intense Pils malts, sweet toasty, bready nose with some Noble hops mixed in. Smells like a very malty Pils.

Flavor: In the front, a nice bitterness, not sharp or assertive though, a tad sourness, but both enough to make you not think this a wimpy beer. In the middle, similar flavors and on the sides, a alcohol flavor and sweet Pils flavors of bread, toast and some caramel... Wiener malt? In the back, more Pils malts, strongly malted. In the back, again, lots and lots of Pils malt flavors, the same as before, just now more intense because back here, there's a little sourness and a tad bitterness, but not too much, to punch it through to your taste sensors. There's more than just Pils malts, though. I don't detect the familiar caramel sweetness of a Münchner malt, but it's far more complex than simply a Pils malt gives you. In the aftertaste, I get a slight alcohol, sour/bitter kick to finish things off.

Mouthfeel: Typical Pils but a tad thicker than average, given the alcohol, but more in the middle of what you'd expect for a German beer.

Overall, I bet if you marketed it in the USA as a Imperial Pilsner, you'd have people clamoring for it, but as a simple Bock, verging into Doppelbock territory, in Germany, it's an above average beer. It's head and shoulders above anything the Fernsehbier (FSB?) folks throw out, but it's not near wow. It's a very nice, not disappointing, above average but not near wow beer. Considering it's easy to find in the FFM area, it makes a nice alternative to the FSBs.

This was one of the first beers I picked up when I got back to Germany from my local beer shop. It has a very malty character. The aroma is very sweet with a mild tone of grass. It has a bronze body with a tan head. The flavor is once again malty with caramel and pasture tones. It has a medium mouthfeel.

 

This winterbock has a light copperish gold color, and is well filtered, makes a fair amount of off white head that laces decently.

The smell is a little grainy, husky, and slightly corny. It's actually a pretty light aroma, but a hint of caramel is detectable.

The taste is also faint, and not very complex. There is some metallic hops to it, along with hints of tobacco.

Mouth feel wise, it's about medium in body, decent carbonation, and wetting to the palate. The alcohol is slightly masked for this being moderately spiked.

Overall this wasn't what I expected from a winter style beer. I was kind of hoping for a weak doppelbock. I'd say this is more of an early spring beer than a winter beer... Just not warming and complex enough.
