A - A bright golden color with fluffy white head that has good retention. Color is dead on, however I have a feeling that Finch's still uses some quality ingredients which leads to a much better head and retention compared to most adjunct lagers.

S - Unusual to be rating an adjunct, but I think this I right on point. Similar aroma to Rolling Rock or Genesee, with a sweetness of cereal grain with a slight apple aroma.

T - Sweet up front, that turns bitter in the middle. The finish is very interesting and complex, as both the sweetness and bitterness play together and grow in strength. Very nice to see an adjunct lager that I have to sip a couple times to figure out.

M - Thin mouthfell as expected, with medium carbonation. Seems great for the style, I expected more carbonation.

O - Awesome Cabeza is definitely worth a try. I have not had many Finch's but this beer really impressed me. The capability to do something interesting with such a plain style has to be a mark of a great brewery.

Even though I don't love lagers I had to pick this one up, marked down from 10 dollars to 7 and another 20% off that makes this around $5.60 for the bomber tax included. Sweet!

A - Huh quite hazy for a lager so I guess its unfiltered. Lookin like a Hefeweizen with hazzy bright yellow and a 1/2 inch of rocking head. Surprisingly some lacing on this lager, cool!
S - Smells like a pretty sweet lager you got your malts, sugars, and corn mostly. No hop smell so I guess its pretty traditional.
T - Not bad in a simple way some skunky corn husk taste mixed with sweet malts and no hops. Pretty much all one can expect.
M - Somewhat crisp, easy going lager. Light to medium it's decent.

Overall I could quaff a bomber of this but I don't think I would seek it out again. I like the strange and complex but it was a tasty lager especially for around 5 bucks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On-tap 10/15/2013 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep yellow color, with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains lager yeast, light caramelized malts and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of thin malts and lager yeast. Then some citrus and caramel citrus comes in. The hops presence is strong for the style and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, it’s a good beer for the style but overall it’s just mediocre.

 

 

Poured from the bottle into a pilsner style glass.

Very dark brass gold, slightly hinting to bronze, very nice and clear, with some good fast rising thin carbonation. Classic bleach white head, big off the pour, settles quickly to three fingers tall and falls slowly.

Simple crisp hops, but very mild, maybe a little bit of herbal and pine in there. Light malts, a hint of possible corn sweetness but not overboard. A somewhat neutral and non offensive palate, sort of a dumbed down pils.

Palate is different than most AALs, but it is what it is. Slightly crisp finish, even a good hop lingering sting on the swallow. Corn crackle, but without the large sweetness. Hops dominate on the aftertaste but not in some giant way. Hop angle comes out a bit peppery on this with easy drinking classic lager domestic finish.

Sol, Tecate, Corona, Modello, this is not. It's a decent step up for the style, with a hint of black pepper like heat. Easy drinking, a good alternative, but nothing to kill grandma for either but a big different pleasurable change from the former(s).
