L- Mid chestnut brown with minor haze (much sediment left in bottle). Pours with 15mm tan head, holds well.
S- A mild fruit note, over a vaguely sour edge plus malts.
T- Bright hopping, zesty... then some quite deep malts into the finish. Different!
F- It's quite pungent, coming over (to me) as more like say 6.5% than it's actual 5.8%. It's surprisingly 'full-on', so more of a slow-sipping beer than anything I'd imagine being able to say session...
O- It's a polished brew, nothing out of place here, zero rough edges. The style - on the lable it reads 'Old English Ale' - is somewhat different. Pungent like a deeper ale whilst also having a more modern bright + zesty hops feel in parallel with it's more trad hopping. Roughacre are a small-batch brewer, and were only estbalished 2.5 years ago. All in all this is an interesting, tasty, somewhat different and very accomplished brew!
BB: 31/10/2020 (lable at base of bottle) 330ml. Bought from Bacchanalia, Mill Road, Cambridge/UK.
