History Class Brewing Company

A newish brewpub in perennially struggling downtown Panama City, FL. Plenty of outdoor seating for the good weather and decent seating indoors. The brewery is housed in an old, small brick building. As you enter you immediately see the menu and beer selection on a chalkboard. You must order your food and drinks at the counter, give your phone number so that you will receive a text when your food is ready. This is odd, as you would think the establishment would have someone to go around the restaurant asking if anyone needed another beer. As for the beer, I had a less than satisfactory "helles" style lager that tasted more like an overly bitter American style lager. I was drinkable and refreshing, but far from a helles. My sister had an odd beer brewed with sweet potatoes, cinnamon, and other spices. She enjoyed it quite a lot. History class also has a blonde ale, hazy IPA, and an alt beer that was unfortunately unavailable when I was there. The beer styles are always rotating, so I look forward to trying some other styles in the future.

The food was excellent. We had a pulled pork sandwich topped with tangy coleslaw, homemade, spicy pickles. As an appetizer, we had pimento cheese with "firecrackers." I normally don't care much for pimento cheese, but this was well-made and flavorful. They also have a really BIG pretzel with cheese among other items. Unfortunately, I was a little let down by the beer, but I will certainly return for the good food and try a different beer.

The brewpub sells t-shirts, but I am not sure the beer glasses are sold. I find out next time. Oh, and it is expensive as are most places these days.
