Cask version at Barleys 5th Annual Mini RAF (04/28/07): Maybe suffered by comparison at this event to East Ends Black Strap Stout and moreso to Bells Expedition (we wont mention Barleys ill-conceived barrel-aged St. Joans Revenge). Pours almost black with a thin dark beige head that dissapears quickly. Minimal lacing. Coffee and malt aroma. Medium-bodied and smooth with tart fruit and coffee flavors, along with some sweet malt. The finish is moderately bitter coffee and falls off pretty quickly, leaving a fruity aftertaste. The beer has potential, however it lacks in richness and depth. Could be better.
