Taster flight at brewery. Foggy amber pour, ring of head, streaky lacing. Sweet malty aroma, very sweet. Taste is malty and dry, brown bread, initial sweet start succumbs to the dry finish.

a proper altbier, as distinct from an american amber, even though it looks like one, brick red with light luster, pretty good clarity, and a frothed up almost inch of just off white head from the tap. this has a beautiful dry kilned malt depth to it, right in the center of that european red malt spectrum, earthy and baked, toasted and even a little roasted, goes a tad deeper than many which i love, but the beer stays light thanks to apparent cold conditioning, really nice refinement on this, super drinkable for something this malt driven, another cool style we dont see enough american breweries tackling. the malt is bready, german, earthen, with a clay-like character, a touch of mid palate sweetness, and subtle hints of dry cocoa, dried red apples, and fruit leather. the yeast has a faint ester but also gives this an almost lager crispness at the end, and the hops are light in here, but add enough late bitterness for this to be fully balanced. it warms up favorably but is refreshing when its good and cold. really tasty beer, distinct from a basic amber, and with nuances of almond and toasted chestnut as it sits a minute, nice take on the style.
