a really wheaty and estery bock here, just what i like in the style, super expressive on the yeast, clovey and warming, the right amount of alcohol coming through all the body without it being heavy, and its a little sweet on the palate which makes it long, smooth with the wheat, a little less quintessentially german than the best of these, something a little mild about the malt and the yeast in that regard, kind of americanized a little bit, but this is real tasty, a cool cold weather drink. the yeast has a soft of hefeweizen element to it, green banana or starchy plantain, cloves, light mulling spices and white pepper too, but also a green pear and white grape thing, slightly vinous with the alcohol in this, wet and real compatible with the grain. the body isnt super heavy but there is some heft to it, fluffy and round. i get candied orange peel, light lemon, and a dried herbal note on the finish, all extended by a bit of generic malt sweetness, a light honey taste too. pretty nice mix of flavors here in a beer that is maybe a little less refined than many others we had in here, but really is quite well done. these guys did an especially nice job with the classic german styles, i liked all of them that we tried in here. you dont see a lot of american breweries making weizenbock, a shame!
