Kazym is a new blend that centers around some incredible rum casks that were used to finish Templeton Rye for 6 months. The essence of the rum spirit is present but balanced by the additional rye finish. The blend also includes Willett Rye and Weller barrel-aged stouts creating a very deep experience akin to its namesake. At 10.6% abv, this blend showcases all the spirit and barrel character with virtually zero burn. Kazym reveals layers of burnt citrus, dark sweet cherry, bubbling caramel, and waves of vanilla and baking spice, all enrobed in dark chocolate.

A: An Obsidian pour that’s melanite in highlight with an employed collar above. That collar has a dead leaved pigmentation along a collapsed shade, which is toned to a Brown-hooded Kingfisher. The durability behind the heightened neck is minimal, as is the warped lace afore the annulled legs, without the agitation
S: The onsets are hospitable to the rum casks with early phenolic links at rest. Malts enter richly on roasted haulers set to coffee along with sweet cherry chocolate, before a browning of homemade Cajeta. At the same time, fruits softly loiter and declassify flame raisins to the prunes of Moyer Plums, while bourbon incentivizes their distinguishing yields. The barrels propagate the undertones with a civility behind polymers, and enhance the vanilla by vanillin, as guiacaols border. With this in mind, the progression wakes those phenolic links to the malt workings, offering charred citrus amongst scalded cobnuts, afore soft coconut. Some drying indebted to the hour(s), for a gander at the sweetness, which offers a bit of parchedness to the sunned/phone-cased leather
T: A thick rundown of chocolate to address the kick-off, as hops lightly back from afar. That backing is a struggle in the onset, given the prevalence of sweet fixtures. Yet, there’s a growing capability in the job’s – bittering – proficiency to cut & overhaul saccharinity. Nonetheless, the blend is sweet with milky centers of crema al cioccolato to go along with a cherry-vanilla crisp. The barrels begin enhancing the dark fruit extremities, by implicating a top piece of lactone sentience. Here, at a state that’s been booked out to dry, is a reflection of that aided hop effect. That being, a snappier attack with an earthed spiciness of pine resin, while the barrels address a rum pomace in the air-lock drafts. The tailpieces keep to a grainy profile in roasted malt, and address the situation with a slight burn in the echoes, where hacks toffee meets tarmac leather
M: The feel has a frothiness that’s decorously shallow from the start, offering a smoothness with an unassuming kick. Moreover, the texture has a thickset that’s fairly sticky at inception, which drives a tempered syrupiness to the midriffs. Thereafter, a marginal nick with the forced currents of late stages, while heat provides a comforting warmth from side to side
O: There’s an aspect that steers close to under-attenuation, but the approach has a decent measure on malt, from the light effect of hops. A smooth blend with muggy notations across the dark fruit varieties and baking delights, while a roasted sensation hangs, as the casks harvest an ongoing movement

This one pours a very dark black color, with a very small head, and no lacing.
This smells like dark fruit, oak, caramel, dried orange, milk chocolate, roasted malt, and bourbon.
The lack of carbonation kind of flattens this out and cuts the flavor off at the end. There's a very interesting barrel character overall, however - with that small rum barrel part of blend adding some interesting dried citrus, molasses, and spice to the stout that really works well for me. There's a nice roasty and chocolatey base flavor here, and a hint of bourbon.
This is medium bodied, silky, and very lightly carbonated, but it kind of thins out on the back end.
This wasn't the best beer that I've had from this great brewery, but it was still very intriguing to try.
