Pours an almost clear, deep golden coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light doughy malt and hoppy citrus and tropical accents of lime peel and guava, as well as hints of lactic acidity. Taste is a good balance of very light doughy malt and fruity, slightly grassy hops, with citrus and tropical notes of guava and lime, as well as just a hint of lemongrass and an underlying, medium acidity. Finishes with a medium acidity and some guava and lime lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I'd probably label this as a Sour (Double) IPA rather than a "Strong Sour Ale" and it does indeed remind me a lot of a stronger version of the Sour IPA they released last year. While the ABV isn't even that much higher here, it does feel somewhat more sweet and boozy and I probably prefered the more refreshing feel of the Sour IPA over this. Nevertheless, it still makes for a pretty enjoyable example of the style that's rather hoppy and fruity, with a good underlying sourness, although just a tad too sweet for my personal taste. Also, the cynic in me can't help but wonder if this isn't simply a re-release of last year's Sour IPA with minimal recipe changes.
