Hatchet was inspired by Hannah Jumper and her "Hatchet Gang". The events of July 8, 1856 will live forever as the day Rockport became a dry town. It took 162 years for the prohibition of alcohol to be lifted. This one is for you Hannah, Slainte!

Hatchet was brewed with premium base malts and flaked oats, wheat and barley. We utilized a healthy dose of Pacific Northwest and Australian hop varieties. Heavy notes of Tropical fruit and Citrus rounded out with a full mouthfeel make this a true New England Style IPA.

Long lasting head with a blanket of initial lace. The liquid is cloudy with a green-hued yellowish color.

Spicy hop aroma with deep pine and grapefruit rind smells.

Relatively dry but distinctly malty start. Decent body but with a higher than expected carbonation level. The hop tells the tale dominating the flavor in the finish, leaving a long aftertaste. Full flavored in the IPA style for a session beer.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a hazy orange-yellow color with a small head of white foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading slowly over time and leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is rather strong of an orange juice and tropical fruit aroma of pineapple, mango, and tangerine. Along with these smells are notes of oat and wheat, as well as some light apricot and peach.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready and sweet flavor with the sweet being a mix of tropical fruit and citrus. The tropics is heaviest of a papaya and mango, with notes of pineapple and the citrus is largely of tangerine with a orange and light lemon accompaniment. There are also some notes of melon and oats as well as hints of hay. As the taste advances the sweet gets a bit more intense in the tropical notes while the citrus gets lighter. At the same time the oat gets more intense, with some light crème joining in at the end and leaving one with a smooth and moderately malty and fruited taste (for a 4.6 % brew) to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – For a 4.6 % brew the body is on the thicker side with a low to moderate carbonation level. For the style the feel is actually fitting making for a slower sipping session.
Overall – A pretty flavorful, lower abv., NEIPA. A little bit more malty, but overall not bad and rather fitting for the style.

Hard to believe this is a session - it's rather a full bodied elixir.

Poured a nice blonde with a bit of a glow. Nice early head, a rich feel, and no hint of a fruitcake lurking. A seriously complex profile. When cold, I detected a note of cardamom (which to double check, I nosed a Penzey's cardamom jar in the cupboard). There were hints of a citrus vibe, but those shone through more once the glass warmed...but It never turned into fruit juice, remaining complex throughout. I really, really like this one.

Pours a cloudy lemon yellow with a fluffy head. This is really good for a sessionable brew and has a soft, creamy, and full mouthfeel. Hops shine through quite nicely and it's not an overly fruity beer. I really enjoyed this and will definitely purchase again if I see it locally. One of the better session beers I've tried, doesn't feel like a session beer.

Consumed during the first quarter of the Super Bowl, and I was a bit surprised at the low ABV. It was a great drive starter. Lovely NEIPA flavor that left room for plenty of wings and more importantly, many more beers. I certainly think I will be revisiting this brew in the near future.

Nice mango orange yellow with prominent lacing, citrus sweet aroma, mellow citrus with zippy hop aftertaste, feels creamy fuzzy silky, very nice neipa brought home from Rockport,Ma. The package store raved about the brewery and their environmental low impact. I just really enjoyed this brew!
