From the brewer:
A dark twist on a German classic. Pours deep black with a slightly tan head balancing roasted malts with toasted bready notes. Light in body yet layered in flavor.

Decent starting head but it fades to the thinnest of rim bubbles. Save for a few random spots, there's no lace. The color is deep, dark brown where no light passes through the liquid.
First whiff brings forward a coffee aroma from (burnt) black patent malt. There's nothing Kölsch-like to the smell. If blindfolded, I would expect this to be a Stout.
Again, the flavor is far closer to a Stout than a Kölsch. The body is thin with a neutral carbonation level. The beer is quite drinkable but would be better named as a dry (Irish) Stout. The flavors feature mostly coffee and burnt barley malt. The aftertaste lasts a long time.
