Crispy, clean lager beer hopped gently and thoughtfully with Saaz. With the rich, German brewing history present in Lancaster, we believe a traditional Pilsner is a must. A much more delicate, light-handed offering, Pilsner is one of our favorite styles. It pairs beautifully with almost all foods and occasions.

Hops: Saaz; Malts: Pilsner; Yeast: Lager.

on draft at the brewery in Lancaster, served in mug

clear, bright yellow in color, thick white head. good head retention. Nice bready pils malt flavor, starts a little sweet but finishes more balanced. Some earthy hop flavor as well. Nice feel from the pour from the side pull faucet, creamy head

Poured into a wide mouth, grip shaped goblet: color is straw, slight hze, head is brighter white with fine to small bubbles, head presents 1/4 inch thick, then dissipates to thin top, nice lacing on the glass sides.

Smell is light pilsner malt, hint of crisp hops, light grass; overall light on aroma.

Taste is malt forward with pilsner and biscuit dominant, hops are backing and subtle with grass and lemon zest but subtle for style.

Mouthfeel is lower moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, low/moderate bitterness.

Overall a solid pils but lacking the Czech pils zing.

OMFG! I have been awaiting this brewery's opening since they first CANnounced their presence & beCAN the extensive renovations that have resulted in this place! It is right on the corner of one of the busiest intersections in the city & replaces a host of former tenants that included, during my lifetime, a PP&G shop and most recently, a combination billiards hall & Phô restaurant as well as an awning dealership. This brewery represents a major step up, IMHO.

My CANpromised immune system (adult-onset asthma + prostate CANcer) means NO hanging out & so I grabbed a Crowler for takeaway.

I beCAN with a Crack! of the vent, followed by a slow, gentle C-Line Glug that actually caused me a bit of CANsternation due to its unCANtrollable dribbling. I stopped for a repositioning & resumed to watch the formation of a finger of foamy, soapy, rocky, eggshell-white head with decent retention. Color was a slightly-hazy Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4). It was okay by me since they had given it an extra week of fermentation to begin with, plus a Lager was ambitious.

Nose had a pronounced lemon biscotti quality that made me nostalgic for my days in the Navy & later at Pitt. I love biscotti, but those esters are more German than Czech. Hmm. Perhaps a more heavy hand with the Saaz hops? OTOH, it would be doing then a disservice to dun them without qualification. I rate to style, not to taste, so bear that in mind.

Mouthfeel was medium, solid for a Lager beer. The taste, while clean, lacked a solid Saaz presence. Instead, the malts were too dominant, making me think of a German Pils throughout. It had a great lemoniness as well as a pleasantly dry biscuity quality, but it really lacked the grassiness of Saaz. Finish was dry, but just not a Czech Pils dry. YMMV.
