Our Prince St. Porter jacked up with local Necessary Coffee. There is something very impressive and eye-catching about what Necessary Coffee brings to the table. Their commitment to sustainably sourcing their coffee is worth noting. Bold, rich flavors of the Lancaster roasted coffee compliment a firm caramel and dark chocolate profile of our house porter.
Hops: Willamette; Malts: Pilsner, Chocolate, Oats, Caramel, Roasted Barley; Yeast: Chico.

In what is beCANming a weekly tradition for me, I stopped by on my day off from work at the local USPS P&DC & picked up a couple of Crowlers for my CANsumption, review & rating. I was especially interested in doing a back-to back CANparison of their two extant Porters & this marks the first of the two.
From the Crowler: "1 Quart (32 fl oz)".
We used to score quarts as kids a block away, on the other side of the street, from the Little Dutch Café! Man, this all takes me back.
Once more, the Crack! of the vent on this oversized big boy resulted in a fingertip spritz! I followed this up with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. My actions resulted in the formation of just under fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with very good retention. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44) with mahogany highlights at the edges. Nose had the dark roastiness of my morning coffee, which is actually saying something.
I am a Navy retiree & I like my coffee strong enough to bypass putting my finger in a light socket for a charge. As such, my coffee is sometimes still dripping two or three days later. In other words, it's coffee, not that hot coffee-flavored milkshake favored by many! Know what I did inna Navy? Drank coffee & smoked cigars! Now, it's the latter over the former, thanks to adult-onset asthma. 8=(
Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but on the approach. The slight stinging of the bitterness was all that I needed to be reminded of its style. Man, this was coffee on a grand scale! Man, it was REALLY coffee-oriented & I was quite glad that I followed it after the base Porter. Phew.
I remember BMCS (SW) Wargo demanding of me, "Well, what happens if we run out of sugar or powdered creamer?!? Or if we're at GQ & they show up with an urn of coffee & no CANdiments?!? What then?!? Are you gonna turn up your nose? Get a grip & start drinking COFFEE, queenie, NOT a hot milkshake!"
This had the coffee taste that he was referring to. This was coffee Porter not for the faint of heart! Don't like coffee? Don't bother with this one, then. Finish was dry, bitter & made me primed for morning coffee. YMMV.
