I have been going in every week since they opened to the public to score at least a Crowler of their latest offering(s) for The CANQuest (tm). I believe that this is only the seCANd Lager that they have brewed & I am happy to be able to review it.
From the Crowler/CAN: "9/25/20".
I am wary of these Crowlers with their oversized lids & hard-to-open tabs, but I overcame all obstacles to Crack! open the vent in order to CANduct a Glug. This last resulted in the formation of two-plus fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, tawny head with decent retention. Color was Deep-Amber/Light-Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was appropriately malty without being cloying, which is a common mistake (?), IMHO. Malty = good. Sugary sweet = 8=p. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, pretty solid for a Lager-style beer, actually. The taste had a lightly caramelized toasty breadiness, right in the sweet spot for this kid. Sweet enough to be stylistically correct without being over-the-top & cloying, making it a Baby Bear beer for me - just right! I quickly found myself wishing that I had a pretzel (or two) to munch on while drinking it, which would have made a good thing even better. I think that the crunchy saltiness of the snack would go really well with the soft sweetness of the bier. It was entirely easy-drinking, going down without a seCANd glance or thought to the point that my stein needed to be recharged frequently until the Crowler was empty. Finish was in that Twilight Zone between semi-sweet & semi-dry & I applaud them for keeping the sweetness in check. I wonder if they have any more ... YMMV.
