Our Old Fashioned inspired beer was fermented warm with our kveik yeast then conditioned on sweet cherries, orange zest and Thistle Finch Distillery whiskey soaked oak chips. Finished with a dash of bitters at the tap.
For takeaway Crowlers: a dash of Bitters for every ten (10) ounces (oz) of beer.
Hops: Nugget
Malts: Pilsner, Wheat, Caramel 30, Caramel 75
Yeast: Voss Kveik

I try to get in at least weekly for a Crowler takeaway & I was not disappointed in this particular visit. Thirty-two (32) fluid ounces (fl. oz.) means that I CAN try it three (3) different ways, all in support of The CANQuest (tm)!
From the Crowler/CAN: "11-13".
Nothing was going to happen until I Crack!ed open the vent so I did just that, followed by a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass.
Unadorned: A finger of soapy, foamy, rocky, tawny head with modest retention. Nose smelled of an Old Fashioned cocktail! Bourbon, orange zest & cherry! OMFG. I first had a sip as a wee lad with my great-uncle out in Altoona as I was curious. He let me have a sip, but I was less enamored in my youth as later in life. This totally brought me back to that porch as he sat with his German-language newspaper, a cigar & that cocktail! Mouthfeel was medium with a stillness that made it that much more evocative of liquor than beer. It tasted especially of bourbon & cherry with a light orange presence. Mmm. S**t, I CAN drink this all day! I used to totally eschew hard liquor for a LONG time, but advancing age has brought me back to enjoying it neat or on the rocks, but NO shots. Cocktails CAN be okay, but I like them when I am with a sophisticate, not flying solo. My current heartthrob, Diana, is just such a person. Finish was less sweet than I expected, more towards semi-dry. It was on the finish that the orange became more assertive, leaving a definite citrusy taste behind.
With Peychaud's Bitters: Oh my! This REALLY brought forth the cherry flavor! I was insCANtly transported to Smithgall's Pharmacy, circa 1970 when the soda fountain was still in service. I used to love their Cherry Coke where I do not find the modern pop version to be as satisfactory. This became MEGA-cherry with the Bitters! Mmm. Shirley Temple might approve ...
With Angostura Bitters: 8=O The promised land! This was truly Cocktail Hour as Rocky Albrecht shouted "Cocktails!" This was wondrously cocktail-like with nary a hint of its being a beer. These bitters really made this beer shine. It tasted of 1955 with a hint of Audrey Hepburn in an LBD with a cigarette in a long-stemmed holder! Smoky orange with long legs ending in a soul kiss.
