Served in a tumbler at Mundelein Brewfest 2014.
Kickin' over to the Onion's booth for a bit o' black IPA. This stuff pours a clear midnight russet topped by a finger of beige foam. The nose comprises pine sap, mild grapefruit peel, light dark chocolate powder, and a hint of treacle. The taste brings in more of the same, the chocolate powder cutting the grapefruit, allowing its bitterness to meld with that of the pine and treacle. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, a nice little black IPA, though the cumulative bitterness puts me off a bit compared to others in the style.
