Taste: semi sweet malts toasted bread, earthy, caramel, nutty, balanced, creamy mouthfeel. Same with the nose.Dark amber hue, clear, Tall tan head with kinda soapy lace. Medium body. Easy to drink, but robust enough to go with many German dishes.

A 25 year-old brewery that has had some hits and misses over the years. The Wild Onion in Barrington, Illinois is a quaint brew-pub that got into distribution a while ago. It has a nice pub and cozy bar to spend an afternoon or evening. Their usual reputation got me to buy this 4-pack of cans (packaged 8-27-21).
Oktoberfest Märzen, poured into my tall Becher.
L -- Clear, light copper with a thin, off-white head that settles quickly.
S -- Herbal hops and light, bready malts... weird touch of cinnamon in the end.
T -- Sweetish, near caramel malts up front with a white bread character through the middle. Light touch of herbal hops in the finish and aftertaste. There's a mellow candy sweetness in the backbone of this one that shouts "Ami Okto!"
M -- Mouthfeel is soft to almost syrupy with a light-medium body.
O -- Sort of lackluster all around for what's supposed to be a malty beer. On the other hand, there's nothing off-putting and it's pretty easy-drinking. Just not near the top for a good Märzen choice.

Served in a tall pokal at the brewpub.
Nice to find another super-local O-Fest, just under the season's wire. It pours the usual clear auburn-tawny topped by a finger or so of light cream-tan foam. The nose comprises caramel, flowers, light orange zest, and a small bit of maple syrup. The taste toasts the caramel a bit and increases the orange character, leaving the rest as is. The toasted caramel really gives this brew a unique flair. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a pretty smooth feel. Overall, a very nice O-Fest, simple and different thanks to the toastedness. I wish I had found this one a bit sooner...
