From the label, it looks like it's called We Bear Hug LA, but I digress. I've also tried one of these from Smog City. Theirs was a West Coast IPA. This was canned 02/26/25, so just under two weeks old.
I like the can art, but knowing Paperback, shouldn't at least one of the palm trees be on fire? I'm guessing their PR guy wouldn't let their clearly unhinged label artist put flames on the palm trees, but personally, I wish they were there.
Nice dank hops. Sometimes NEIPAs can really hold back the IBUs, but paperback knows how to properly bitter a hazy. Iget mostly juniper and pine on the nose, but there are definitely fruity notes of cara cara, guava, mango and passion fruit in the mix here as well. Maybe a hint of sage on the finish? Love that. I wish it had some smoked malt too...
The taste is a big hoppy punch, with a bit less sweetness than one might expect from other hazies. It's surprisingly acidic, which may be detracting from said sweetness and consequently, you do get some delicate tangerine and passion fruit notes on the palate, but they are nearly buried in coniferous dankness.
It feels medium bodied, but very dry for a hazy. The dank hops give it a surprising amount of bite, and it has a lingering clingy dryness that isn't super ideal, but I've had many hazies that were even more astringent and this one is definitely pulling it off.
I hope to see more of these!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
