Picked this up at Gary's In Madison recently, having never seen a beer can like this or anything from FAB, for that matter. Looked different, felt different, and it turned out to be different as this may have been the most unbeer-like beer that I've had in quite some time? Was this a Sour Ale? A Berliner Weisse? And where was the alcohol? Quite mysterious as I enjoyed this and the art on the can, wondering what this was all about...
This had a nice, translucent golden hue to it as the softy, bubbly head fizzled quickly and somewhat quietly. No lacing we left behind as this was quite thin with any bubbles sliding down my pint glass after each sip. The muddled nose was quite tart with an outdoorsy, wild feel that was interspersed with the pink guava and blood orange that was described on the can, along with hibiscus, floral notes, and potpourri. All of these were in the taste along with an underlying sourness, hints of acetate, tangy lime, bright citrus juice, and slick juice that was a cross between raspberry and gooseberry. So easy to drink and enjoy with a nice lightness to it and low acidity.
Hard to find the booze here but with such a lovely presence to this, who's to notice? This didn't last for long as felt as fresh and lively as any beer of this type could be. Canned on 10/1, this had a high price point but was worth buying as it certainly stood out from my usual fare. Hope to see more from FAB in the future!
