Heavy cream, alcohol and blazing sun. it's a combination no only meant for spring break stupors and stomach churns anymore. No, now its inspiration for sour ale as the Magnanimous Brewing team sees it.
Pale gold and generally cloudy, the pineapple, coconut, vanilla and lime infused Magnanacolada first teases the nose with the expected punch of citrus along with supplementary tropical, creamy and vanilla-like scents. Diving into taste, the first sip is scantly sweet with mild hints of sourdough, taffy and wafer as its racy bubbles and soft froth settles a bit.
As the soft fruitiness flows along the tongue, the brisk sourness of the ale shares its own lemon, lime, crabapple, gooseberry and vinous fruitiness that complement the piƱa colada fruits very well. Tightening its acidic grip, the beer sees a drying middle palate instead of a heavy cream feel for a more sprite and spritzy session. A lightly peppery finish brings a balancing taste of alcohol spice, citrus peel and tartness with a soothing coconut character.
Medium bodied for sour ale but trending quite crisp, refreshing and drinkable overall, the sour ale finishes with a brisk cocktail character and a brief aftertaste of peppery balsa and dry burlap.
