A little new, a little old, a little strong, a little floral...Magnanimous' "quadruple" IPA seems to have something for everyone. ...except for those looking to retain some semblance of sobriety.
Their Hazy Titan of a beer pours fairly innocently with a pale golden hue, densely packed with opaqueness and topping off with a foamy thick cap. As an abundance of fruity perfumes drift about the nose, the Mosaic, Strata, Chinook and Columbus hops shed their citrusy, tropical, herbal, spicy and evergreen aromas. But to taste, its the generous malt profile that brings a balancing sweetness with poundcake, dough and cereal.
But the shift back to hops happens as the strong ale washes the middle palate. A rounded cocktail of pink grapefruit, lime and tangerine bridge toward more tropical flavors of pineapple, mango, passionfruit and papaya. Other rounding flavors of nectarine, apricot and pawpaw just keep the complex flavors rolling. Trending smoothly bitter, the late palate is spicy with spruce, grassiness, peppery alcohol and hemp.
Full bodied but still drinkable, the beer's more than imperial status never hinders its drinkability or becomes overly labored on the palate. Hazy Titan finishes malty-sweet with a soft botanical bite that extend long on the after palate with spruce, hemp, gin spice and fruit peels.
