My son in law picked this up for me and I've been looking at it in the back of my refrigerator for a while now. I take it out, warm it up a little and pour it into an awesome 250ml Carlsburg glass I found in a bar in France. It impresses big time.
It pours lighter than I imagined and with just a bit of head. Classy looking. The aroma impresses too but is hard to describe. It is somewhat roasty smelling but that's not it. There is that doppelbock yeasty smell without the usual funkiness. It is much more appealing. The taste is way better than I imagined. Nothing is over the top - everything is balanced. The mouthfeel and aftertaste are of the highest quality. It may be one of the lightest feeling doppelbocks ever but it's just that there aren't any of the usual gotchas of the style (yeasty, funky, bitter over the hillness). All that after sitting in my fridge for a long time.
