Brauhaus Nittenau "The Wit"
,33 L brown glass bottle coded "Mindestens haltbar bis: 23.04.2026" and sampled on 29.04.2026
1,62 € @ KaDeWe, Berlin, DE

Notes via stream of consciousness: A hazy straw gold body is capped by a short lid of bright white foam. The aroma is quite floral with orange, coriander, and sweet malt. The taste follows. It's sweet, spicy, orange-like, a touch herbal, and just mildly bitter - although that bitterness is enough along with the spiciness of the coriander to dry it in the finish. It lingers for a moment but then it all clears up leaving you ready for another sip. The malt does have some of that starchy, wort-like character that many NA's have but it's not overly noticeable as there's so much going on due to the spices. The head didn't hold up that great but it has left some very nice lacing behind. In the mouth it's light-medium in body and gently crisp with a fine-bubbled carbonation. As far as NA's go this one is quite charming, and if I was forced to only drink NA's this would make a pleasant change every now and again.

Pours a slightly cloudy, pale golden coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smells of light doughy malt and citrus zest, with just a hint of coriander coming through as well. Taste is a good balance of light doughy malt and grassy, slightly floral hops, with notes of orange peel and just a subtle hint of coriander coming through as well, Finishes with a light bitterness and some orange peel and coriander lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light body and medium carbonation.

I think that this makes for a very nice and refreshing NA summer beer, with the Curacao orange peel really coming through here and lending a rather zesty character to this, while the coriander is a bit more subtle, but still adds something here. Making a NA Wit Beer is certainly a rather interesting idea and works well enough here. Even though you probably won't mistake this for a proper Wit, it still makes for a rather enjoyable non-alcoholic brew that shows off its additives nicely. I would highly recommend pouring this very carefully though, as there is a lot of sediment at the bottom of the bottle.
