500 ml swingtop bottle, under its alias "Das Echte Altbayreuther Braunbier", bought at KaDeWe, Berlin. Reddish brown colour, large and lasting off-white head. Rye bread / bakery aroma, notes of lightly roasted malts and caramel too. Mouthfeel is surprisingly watery, flavour is rather bland and bready, lightly roasted malts with minimal hops. Slightly sourish finish. By all means a drinkable beer, but I expected more flavour than this.

A: Very dark mahogany, wasn't completely opaque but looked thick, no real head, left a small amount of lacing.

S: Dark chocolate and malt.

T: Basically followed the nose and finished with a kick of dark fruits, also had hints of Hershey's chocolate.

M: Medium to heavy body, slightly coarse edge.

O: Very nice dark beer, would recommend.

Their Braunbier was much better than their Pils. I'd had it before from a bottle bought on Bierzwerg.de, so I knew this would good. It was not too malt-forward or too herb, or bitter. It actually tasted “brown,” by that I mean some roasted malts or brown malts, yet no evidence of Münchner malt flavors, so this is a nice change-up for a German beer. Even though I'm dead sure they used a bottom-fermenting yeast, this beer reminded me slightly of Pils-y version of a Newcastle-like brown ale. Well worth trying... a solid 4.

It has dark brown body with a tan head and plenty of lace. It has a woody deep roast smell with a biscuit like smell as you sip. The flavor is not overly toasty but the roasted dark malt definitely has a presence. The tones of chocolate powder are also very present. It has full and slick mouthfeel.

Used to live in Bayreuth.
Had it as bottle and drafted

A - Brown, actually more a dark amber with some head (bottle) or classic german pour head (2cm, draft)

S - Sweet with some toasted aroma; does not tell any hop scent.

T - touch of smoke/toast which can be caused by the darker malts in the beer.

M - Is not a beer to satisfy you thirst. Mouthfeel is bodied and soft; Pending on carbonation.

You need to eat some typical Bavarian food with it. This is an average beer which gains when combined with heavy food.

Appearance
Attractive deep brown with a tall, fluffy head

Smell
Mild sweet and toasty bread aroma

Taste & Mouthfeel
Slight smokinees with hints of berry, toasted malts, brown sugar, and chocolate; low body, soft and oily texture

Overall
Very drinkable and complex. Tastes like an awesome brown ale, which surprised me to find in Germany. If you see it, grab it; you won't be disappointed.

The aroma is full of nuts and toast. Tall cream colored head fades quickly leaving a few specs of lace along the way. Glowing dark brown beer has amber hues around the edges. Rich flavor of cocoa, biscuit malt, and peanuts. Moderately light body filled with fine carbonation makes for a refreshing beer. It tastes like a brown ale on steroids. There really is no good style to put this under. The brewery calls it a brown beer, and it's closest to a Dunkel lager, but much richer. No matter the case, give it a try.
