Undated bottle; drank 6/2/26 @ the Yarchives.
Mostly opaque brown/orange appearance.
A rough pour yielded a small tan head; strong lacing remained.
Fresh earth, chocolate & faint stone fruit notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Fresh earth & chocolate flavors.
Solid brown ale; I'd have another.

my first from this brewery and a really fantastic brown ale overall, i mean really good without in any way being exciting, which is actually kind of cool in this day and age, like its samey in style, no innovation here or anything, but it stands purely for its quality, which is rare in the era of bells and whistles in everything, so well done to these guys, i was taken by it quite immediately. i believe its "bufflehead" not "buffelhead" but will leave it alone. darker reddish to mid brown, high headed and creamy looking, well enough refined to me without being overly polished visually, lively and appealing for the fall. the nose is familiar, very faint yeast element with nice chocolate malt depth in the center, some caramel and toffee but not too much sugar, faint roast but its not that dark, and with some bready and warming properties that beef it up slightly, no real hops in play, dry cocoa, bran, very pleasant and fresh to me as well which is an odd observation for a brown ale but its true here. the flavor is a little more robust, nutty with almond and roasted chestnut depth, milk chocolate but again without too much sweetness, a cola note, light vanilla and molasses but its not desserty, its the chocolate malt bringing all of this, its so forward and awesome in here, right in the center of the flavor, this is what most brown ales chase but this one gets all the way there, i love it. medium body, smooth but also bubbly as these go, earthy chocolate on the finish, a hint of black tea, brown sugar, and faint ale yeast in a flattering way, very drinkable and mellow, approaching textbook as the style goes, and it has me eager to try more from this outfit, splendid brown ale overall!
