A very dark brown color with a decent light tan head and reasonable spotty lacing. The aroma has some bitter coffee with a little grassy malt. Nothing special but okay. The flavor adds some stronger malt and charcoal with brown bread molasses sweetness. The leafy hop is a nice touch but the theme is all brown stuff with a medium body, tasteful fizziness and a solid, somewhat chalky feel. This is the best Cooperstown brew I've tried so far and I'm not the biggest fan of brown ales. Very solid stuff.

A-Deep ruby brown but overly carbonated about a three to four finger head that almost tops over the glass.

S-Some nuttiness, a tad bit of caramel, not much else.

T-Nice mix of roasted, almost but not quite burnt malts, nuts, a wee bit of spice and caramel, not bitterness

M-Thin and slightly watery.

O-Was not expecting much but this brown ale surprised me, well balanced and flavorful. Why did Cooperstown cancel this one?

A. Poured a clear black coffee, with a short tan head. No lacing on the glass.

S. Leaves, dark malts, brown sugar

T. Roasted malt, molasses. Some coffee notes, brown sugar, honey, with slightly bitter finish.

M. Medium bodied, medium carbonation

D. An average brown ale, a little on the sweet side, leaves a sweet aftertatte.

12oz bottle purchased as a single from Oliver's in Albany, NY.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 3/4" tan head over the clear brown brew. Head audibly fizzes down gradually, with average lacing. Aroma is rich grains. Taste starts sweet, goes chalky promptly, and closes with a lightly fruity hoppiness. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth, and drinkability is not too bad. The chalkiness and increasing fruit notes start to become bothersome.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz into a pint glass. There is no noticeable freshness date on the label.

Appearance: The body has a dark brown color with a slight reddish hue when held up light. It is dark but the clarity is still good. Its head has a light tan color and stands about one finger tall. It slowly fades down to just a wispy thin layer that makes some slick lacing.

Smell: There is sweet roasted maltiness in the nose with notes of dark caramel, toffee and just a slight hint of hops.

Taste/Palate: The flavor has a very sweet and bready malt character with notes of brown sugar, caramel, and some deep roasted notes. There is a very light and smooth buttery flavor as well. Hop flavor and bitterness are very light and offer very little balance to the sweet malt. It has a medium body with a smooth texture and light but active carbonation.

Notes: Overall It was a good basic Brown Ale.

Poured into a glass dark brown with almost no head. Had a little nutty and caramel malt aroma, no hops. Overall - aroma was subdued.

Flavor was fairly strong toasted, caramel, and nutty malt. Caramel was especially strong. Would have been good with more bitterness to back it up, but not so. Left no bitterness on the back of my tongue in the aftertaste either. Flavors are good, but could use tweeking for more balance.

Light body, lighter than I expected, but not bad. With better flavor balance the light body would make this an extremely drinkable beer.

A- Dark brown color, non-transparent, one finger thick fluffy white head that faded to a thin cover

S- Toasted malts, caramel, nutty, milk cocoa powder, hint of hops

T- Dark chocolate, marshmallows, grainy, caramel malts, toasted nuts

M- Medium body, low/medium carbonation, smooth, rich, flavorful

D- Decent session beer

This a fairly good example of an American Brown Ale. Good flavors and even better auroma.

Nice creamy head stands atop a beautiful reddish brown ale that just sparkles. The head slowly added, but showed nice retention. Really creamy with structure.

The aroma was very sweet and earthly. Also quite fruity. Not sure how to describe it. Like a sugar daddy. Pretty strong. Didn't really like it, to be honest. A little muddy.

Flavor unfortunately followed the aroma and not the visual initial impression. For such a beautiful looking beer this was a let down. Sweet grainy flavor with little balance. I know that Brown Ales feature the malt tones, but you need some hop presence to provide balance. This has none. It really just has a muddy, sweet malty flavor. That's really it.

Mouth feel is a bit sticky and flat since there is no finish.

Not very drinkable. Wish I had purchased another Pride of Milford (their Strong Ale) vs. this one. Not good.

This poured a clear, dark mahogany with light tan head. It smelled like watered-down molasses, weak lemon hops, and some alcohol scent. It tasted like roasted malt, light molasses, and some copper hops. It was watery with moderate carbonation, and had a brief bitter aftertaste. Overall this was another generic but clean brew from Cooperstown. It was unoffensive but unimpressive.

Deep brown with a big foamy head.

Smells roasty with a balanced hop presence.
I really enjoyed this beer. Tastes rich & malty with some mocha-like characteristics. Hops keep the sweetness in check nicely.

Smooth and creamy mouhfeel; medium body.
More of an English Brown Ale than an American. Pretty good stuff.

I bought this from the brewery about 11 months ago. Im sampling at cellar temp poured into a pint glass.
A large frothy, fizzy beige head foams up rapidly to 3 cm and sits on top of the pint for a while over reaching the edges a little.
The aroma is brown sugar and chocolate with a bit of grassy hops mixed in. Some hints of roasted malt as well.
First sip reveals an average body with smooth texture and very fine tingly carbonation.
Flavor is not as sweet up front as I expected. I get some caramel and chocolate briefly but they give way to some grassy and herbal hops that actually are a little astringent. Leaves a bitter green leafy plant flavor on my palate.
the beer is easy to drink with no hint of ABV, but I think it was better fresh.

Retired? I just got a bottle in a variety pack. Doesn't have great head or lacing, but its still a pretty beer. Smells and tastes of chocolate. There's also a nice mix of ringwood fruit without any over-riding butter ruining the beer. Overall, smooth and big on chocolate flavor for a brown.

This is a 12 oz bottle of Striker, purchased at the Brewery the day after Belgium Comes to Cooperstown. I am drinking it from a tumbler.

Appearance: The ale has a light brown color, slightly dark but translucent enough to see no haze. There is a thick head on the beer.

Smell: The ale has a nutty malt aroma.

Taste: Thel ale has a slightly smoky flavor that accentuates chocolate and caramel notes, as well as a firm nuttiness. There are a lot of flavors here.

Mouthfeel: The chocolate and caramel notes are good.

Drinkability: I could easily drink a few of these, as they are smooth and flavorful.

Un-retired as of July 2006. That's the owner's dog on the bottle.

A: Pours a dark brown with a slight reddish tint. NIce frothy cream colored head that has some good retention.
S: Dark fruit notes dominate the nose. Wheaty and sweet caramel malt notes follow up the dark fruit. Grassy hop notes in there too. Good smelling.
T/M: Sweet raspberry tart notes followed by caramel notes and a good backbone of bready malt. Very sweet on the second take. An interesting taste to this one. Starts off smooth and coating in the mouth followed by a sharp carbonation blast, then a sweet aftertaste. Carbonation is more subtle and the raspberry flavors are more dominant as it warms.
D: Very drinkable, but not your ordinary brown ale. The sweet flavors are interesting to me--almost too much. Glad I got to buy this as part of a mix pack at the brewery. Go there if you can--the tour was great!

Brownish amber body with a purple hue?
Mild malty aroma. Yeasty nose. Light coffee and fruity phenols.
Same ringwood yeast flavor found in every other cooperstown brew. Subtle coffee flavor and a little metallic towards the end. Finish is short and clean.
Fizzy mouthfeel. Pretty light for a brown ale.

A new offering from Cooperstown brewing, the label says that it is "hand brewed" what ever that means...12 ouncer sampled, no freshness indication offered. Pours a darkish shade of almond brown, Hoisting a respectable tan head, which exhibits better then average retention. Lacing is splotchy and slides down the side of the glass. Aroma I get is just a hint of vanilla, perhaps hazelnut and malt. When just out of the fridge and cold this one was sharp and the sweetness was a bit harsh. As it warmed, nice rounded nutty flavors came foward making this a decent drinker. Notes of vanilla, nuts, caramel and some fruity sweetness. Respectable take on the style and worth a try.

Lot's of sweet caramel malt in the aroma with a pinch of cocoa. Thick, moderately dense, light brown colored head holds strong. Glowing, dark chestnut colored beer. It tastes like it smells with a mild bitterness right at the end. Mouthfeel is light and fluffy. Nothing crazy, but a solid brown ale with plenty of flavor.
