Clear as a gem, reddish copper (SRM 9-11). A fine, light khaki head reaches and briefly holds one quarter inch before leaving a coating of lace on a PBGC dimpled mug.
This opens with strong black coffee grinds, followed by a quick burst of sweet malt, then returns to the coffee grinds. Almost all of the roast is from the coffee, with light, but obvious, roasted malt in the background. Also noticeable are peanut husks.
The flavor closely follows the nose, although all are more balanced. The coffee/malt flavors are fantastic, with enough flavors adding a nice compliment and an unexpected level of character. The finish is short and pleasant.
A medium body with Jersey cotton texture. Carbonation is light and fluffy, while there is no hint of alcohol.
This is a huge and pleasant surprise! Coffee Brown Ale is an outstanding and flavorful table beer that can easily be sessioned. Yes, Brown Ale can be exciting. Not amusement park exciting, mind you, just calm excellence.
