Pours murky yellow gold (SRM 3-5). Appears similar to mango flesh. A big, dense, creamy white head has a light, pastel orange tint. After what seems to have been an eternity, the head slowly dissipates to a thick webbing of lace on a Spieglau IIPA glass.
The aroma opens with sweet pine resin and a very strong combination of orange and grapefruit. A nice, earthy bite follows, while grass and mango built with warmth.
The flavor follows the nose, although it is fairly muddy. Bitterness overpowers the sweetness and both are abundant. The mango and subtleties of the aroma are lost. In my opinion, this would fare better if considered a Hazy IIPA, rather than an NEIPA. A long, citrus finish is lightly astringent.
Alcohol is as expected. Prickly carbonation adds a nylon texture to an otherwise full, creamy body.
Despite style discrepancy, this is an enjoyable and unexpected beer. Pepper Jack and late Summer/early Autumn weather would pair well with this beer while on a picnic.
