Balanced caramel malt flavors with refreshing hop bitterness. Before Germany had lager beer, it had ales. Alt, meaning “old,” pays homage to one rebel region in Germany which did not lean into lagering.

On tap at Frequentem Brewing in Canandaigua, NY.
This one pours a golden but slightly dark brown color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like toasted malt, bittersweet caramel, grassy hops, a bit of spicy bitterness, and breadiness.
This is pretty much spot on. The spicy and grassy hop bitterness is moderate, and well balanced by the lightly sweet but mostly dry malt character - toasted, bready, and bittersweet, with caramel, nuttiness and dark breadiness leading the way.
This is medium bodied, creamy, and drinks much bigger than the 5.5% would suggest. It's super drinkable.
Frequentem does trendy hype styles, but they also do much more traditional things very well in addition. I like the balance there.
