On tap at Frequentem Brewing in Canandaigua, NY.
This one pours a toasty looking golden red color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like toasted malt, tea, some roast, caramel, and grassy hops.
I’ve never had a rotbier before, but it seems like this is probably a good version of it? There’s a really toasty and spicy malt character, almost oaky, even though this isn’t oak-aged. There’s a bit of grassy and tea-like hop character, peppery and spicy.
This is pretty creamy, and very drinkable, with a nice smooth finish.
This brewery has come out of the gate making some of the best lagers in Western NY. They are must orders whenever I visit.
