Batch #3.
This one pours a very dark black color, with a tight white fluffy head, and lots of lacing.
This smells fantastic, with a spicy, peppery, and floral hop character, some oak, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, and black tea.
This is absolutely fantastic – probably the best lager I’ve had yet from Frequentem, and they’ve certainly made some great ones so far. The oak character adds a touch of roundness to this, some light spice, and just makes this super fluffy and drinkable, at least in my mind. The hop character is spot on here – peppery, almost tea-like, spicy, cedar, and floral, all sorts of good stuff. There’s lots of roast, some chocolate, and sharp coffee flavors.
This is super crisp and clean, and drinks bigger than a black lager usually would, without being actually too rich.
This is utterly and completely delicious – one of the best lagers made in Western NY, ever.
