2025 500 ml bottle $15. Poured cold to a snifter. The color is a ruddy, murky chestnut with variable looking turbidity upon pouring. A thin lake head with surprisingly sticky legs. Not much in the way of aroma, but there are faint chocolate notes. First sips cold show a hefty amount of powdery baker’s chocolate with a brown ale foundation. Mouthfeel is medium. Some hop notes sneak in toward the end, and bring up a bit of roasted malt flavor. As it warms, more chocolate comes up front, and the hoppiness starts to subside. Mouthfeel thickens somewhat. Alcohol does not punch and brings no warming, despite hitting double-digit territory. It’s a decent beer, judging by how quickly I’m drinking it, despite odd initial impressions that I “should” like it less than I do. Letting it warm significantly longer would surely help it. The brown ale notes are not ideal to me, but I would revisit this for more comparison and probably trades.
