This one pours a very dark cola brown with mahogany highlights. It is clear, with one inch of light beige mousse atop. The head holds one half inch before leaving thick lacing on a clear glass mug.
The aroma is filled with rich roasted coffee beans and pumpernickel rye. Mixed nuts fill out the profile.
The flavor is moderately roasted malt. Some mallards work their way in before mild coffee. The finish has a modest roastiness. As it approaches room temperature, the flavors become much more rich.
Light carbonation helps to lift the medium body and accentuate the coarse wool texture. There is no sensation of alcohol whatsoever.
This is a good drinking beer that would certainly work well with salami or summer sausage.
