Appearance: Pours coffee colored with just a hint of film that quickly fades; a few speckles are left behind
Smell: Milk chocolate, molasses, roasted walnut and Bourbon tones
Taste: Milk chocolate and molasses forward with the roasted walnut developing; in the mid-palate, a hint of date emerges along with the Bourbon; the finish adds more sweet elements, such as coconut and honey
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with no carbonation
Overall: A bit thin for what I was expecting and merging a stout with a barleywine can be tricky; the walnut addition makes this more interesting, though
Thanks, Rug, for the opportunity

Alright, we’re at the end of a day long Origin beer tasting. Me and my buddy gave had a good time trying through the recent lineup, and this feels like a good place to end, a big ol’ Stout/Barleywine blend conditioned on black walnuts. Let’s crack it open and finish this off right
Pours a very dark brown with a finger of tan head that quickly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose here is a bit strange and almost musty but I kinda dig it. I’m picking up on aromas of toasted walnut, milk chocolate, brown sugar, sweet bourbon, vanilla, light raisin, and molasses
It takes a bit of a weirder turn in taste, feeling surprisingly boozy for 10.5%. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting sweet bourbon, black cherry, molasses, toasted coconut, oak, cocoa powder, and light caramel. The swallow brings notes of fusel alcohol, toasted walnut, sweet honey, toffee, sweet bourbon, cocoa powder, and light raisin
A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick and hot beer. Finishes neutral with a huge boozy punch
Well that was a weird way to end my Origin tasting. This is a very out-there beer that’s quite over the top. It might be best left to mellow out for a bit before drinking it
