This is the last of my small Origin haul. For a brewery that shows restraint in traditional styles, they sure do like to use some weirder adjuncts for their Stouts. I’ve seen more out there stuff from them than this, but black walnut and black lava salt aren’t exactly common either. Let’s crack it open and see what it has to offer
Pours a very dark brown with 2 fingers of creamy light tan head that fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose is rather subtle, just a nice fruity and roasty Stout. I’m picking up on aromas of black cherry, cola nut, cacao nib, dark roast coffee, brown sugar, raisin, walnut ice cream, and light caramel
It’s more of the same in taste, but there’s an odd bitterness that’s gentle enough but still holds things back. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting cacao nib, burnt caramel, vanilla bean, raisin, toasted walnut, molasses, and light black tea. The swallow brings notes of acrid coffee, burnt walnut, molasses, cherry pit, black tea, cacao nib, herbal hops, light tob, and caramel
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes bone dry with a firm bitterness
While this is far from my favorite from them, but it’s still damn solid
