16oz can served in a nonic. Pours the color and clarity of cola with a dense, three-finger, khaki-colored head embedded with pinpricks and ringlets. Nose reveals light notes of cocoa and hazel nut. Taste is pleasant but subdued - suggestions of light, roasted malts finish with a kiss of bakers chocolate. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with an easy carbonation and a creaminess to the texture. Overall, a nice, low abv stout that checks many of the boxes. I wish there was just a little more depth to the flavor profile.

I made my first trip to Origin (or really any brewery) for the first time in a while last weekend. It was great to get back and see a whole crop of new beers they have, the highlight being the peppermint variant of this one I had on tap. I have a feeling this one will be even better. Let’s crack it open and find out
Pours almost completely pitch black with 2 fingers of creamy light tan head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose is dry and roasty, quite the opposite of the sweeter hazelnut adjunct Stouts that tend to be the norm. I’m picking up on aromas of roasted hazelnut, smoked ham, dark roast coffee, dark toast, vanilla, cacao nib, light peanut butter, and black pepper
It’s more of the same in taste though a touch less spicy. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting medium roast coffee, vanilla, dark toast, hazelnut, cacao nib, red grape, sea salt, and light peanut. The swallow brings notes of hazelnut, medium roast coffee, cacao nib, earthy hops, black tea, red grape, molasses, and peanut butter
A light medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a crisp beer. Finishes bone dry with a balanced bitterness
To nobody’s surprise, this one is great. Downright crushable for a bittersweet Stout
