Pours gem clear copper (SRM 13-15). A huge, fine ecru head reaches three inches before gradually settling to hold one-quarter inch. Occasional spots of lace are deposited on the Simpli Stange glass.
The aroma opens with strong caramel malt, immediately followed by modest, earthy hops. Green pepper is prevalent. Warmth holds this back slightly, as it causes the aromas to become muddy.
Toasted malt is strong, front to back. Bitterness is equally strong with little to no astringency. Peanuts and cashews quietly build until they nearly dominate. Again, warmth is a detriment, the less so in the aroma. Some sweetness does come through in the finish, along with faint smoke.
A medium body and smooth hard texture of polished metal. Carbonation is fine and ample, while alcohol is barely perceptible.
This is a welcome, low ABV beer that the five o'clock club would appreciate. It pairs nicely with gouda and bratwurst.
