From Good Times Oakland, no dating.
Pours a dark gold with a good long lasting head of foam, lacing is good.
The smell is grainy, bready, a little sweet.
The taste is bread, grainy, earthy, very little bitterness, overall, it has an "old" taste to me.
The mouthfeel is good, I would not drink this again.

Obolon Brewery "Zhygulivske Pempo"
500 ml brown glass bottle without production codes or freshness dating
$4.49 @ Total Wine & More, Claymont, DE
Notes via stream of consciousness: Pempo translates to retro, which is also listed on the label. It's poured a clear deep-golden/light amber colored body beneath a short head of white foam that appears to be holding well. The aroma is grainy, toasty, mildly caramelish, and floral. It's clean and welcoming. On to the taste... as you might have expected it's very much the same, but fuller. I can't tell if this is an adjunct beer, and it is just 4.5% alcohol by volume, but it's not super rich despite the fact that there is some toasted and caramel character to it. That's not to say it's lacking, just that I can't tell if there's an adjunct in play. It's pretty decent. There's a hint of apple-like fruitiness as well, and some minor herbal and earthy character. In the mouth it's on the upper end of light-bodied, and it's gently crisp with a moderate bitterness and fine-bubbled carbonation. You could certainly drink a lot of these if you wanted, which is the idea, I'm sure, but ultimately I'd get bored with it - not that that's a flaw. If there is a flaw it's that the head retention could have been better, keeping in mind that it does have a more moderate carbonation level which leaves it gently crisp and then smooth, and thus the lacing is limited as well. Could it have more hops to it? I don't think so, not given the amount of malt that's there. I think it's well balanced across the board. This is another beer that I'll say is definitely worth trying to see if it suits your tastes.

From the half liter bottle, it pours a clear amber color with a modest white head that diminishes to a ring with some lacing. The nose gets a bit of malt. The mouth follows with a light malt and minor hop presence. Enjoy it after mowing the lawn!
