Picked this up recently at The Bottle King in Wayne, as this was the first beer from Neck of the Woods that I ever had, let alone saw. Shame that this was in a 12 oz. can as I enjoyed this and thought that it was a good interpretation of the style, given how flavorful and easy to drink this was.
This had an appearance to it that resembled a Nut Brown Ale, although this certainly wasn't that. Enough tan head topped it off although the lacing was hardly anywhere to be seen, aside from a few spots of suds that were scattered about my glass. Lots of apple, pear, plum, booze, and yeast in the understated nose as the taste closely followed suit. A textbook example of the style, this was true to form as it was full of fruit, phenolic flavor, and booze. Light on hops, this was plenty dark and had enough heft to it as it nearly felt close to an imported original.
Moderately strong and feeling full of Crystal Malt on the palate, this was a decent take on the style as it warmed me up and was mildly complex once it fully warmed up. Canned on 12/1 with "DUBBEL OR NOTHING" written underneath that, it was a nice touch to have the label resemble the Belgian flag. If you can't get anything of the sort from overseas or from Ommegang, this would fit the bill in place. A soft banana and raisin aftertaste left me wanting more, and a bigger can of this the next time around.
