8 ball black with a fairly short but dark tan head that sticks around long enough for a decent pic.
Hypnotizing vanilla caviar and pureed Oreo waft off the nose, accented by a little spicy whiskey char.
These elements translate well on the slightly punchier, prickly palate--though lighter than expected, it's also velvety. Here, too, surface characteristics of brownie batter with a touch of date and Coca-Cola.
Quite mature and well balanced flavor-wise--as in not too gloppy thick or sickly sweet--it's certainly boozier than say a Side Project bottle, which may make it a bit abrasive for some, though I find it to be an appropriate level of bite. Actually, the drinkability continues to grow on me over the session, which is hard to do for a 750ml bottle of barrel aged stout, overall making a solid argument for a higher score.
To mom on her 68th--here's hoping she can eek a little more time out yet.
