Pours clear with a light golden color and considerable foam, at least 3 cm high, with noteworthy persistence. To call what remains of the foam after 10 minutes lacing is a gross understatement. Smell is very clean and strong, the typical Helles malt, grain and grass mix. Flavor follows the smell, although with relatively more grassy hops and bitterness than malt. The relatively light body and considerable carbonation makes for a very effervescent feel, almost like spring water. Overall this is a very easily drunk beer, with good flavor and a crisp feel, although a little to the Pilsener side of the Helles standard.

Pours clear gold color with a 2-3 finger thick foamy/creamy white colored head that faded very slowly and left minimal lacing. Smells of herbs, lemon zest, grassy notes, the nice German earthy hops, vegetables, malts that come off like bread crust and some very faint spicy accents. Tastes of grains, faint caramel, lemon zest, herbal notes, tea leaf, grassy hops and malty sweetness. Mouthfeel was creamy and smooth with very little bitterness and almost no carbonation like it was flat; the aftertaste was on the dry side with an earthy flavor lingering. Decent overall, a good day drinking brew.

Schlossbrauerei Irlbach GmbH & C0 "Vollbier Hell"
500 ml can coded "25.06.2025 IHL P041250324". Sampled on 02.11.2024
$59.99 / 24 can - Costco's Biergarten Collection, Costco, Christiana, DE

Notes via stream of consciousness: A slightly hazy dark golden body is capped by a finger's width of white foam. The aroma is clean and suggests grainy malt and grassy hops. It's not bright but everything's clear and easy to find. On to the taste, it's maltier than I thought it would be, and yet there's just enough hop bitterness to balance it. It borders coming off as sweet but never really gets there. I wish there were more hops to it but not all wishes come true. It does dry out in the finish after a moment when the malt fades away. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp and then smooth. The head held up fairly well and the lacing is good. This isn't the best beer I've had from Irlbach but it's easy drinking and satiating.

From the half liter can in the 2024 Biergarten Collection from Costco, it pours a light yellow color with a nice white head that diminishes. The nose gets grassy hops and light malt. The mouth follows with a light malt flavored clean tasting brew. Mild aftertaste of lightly bitter malt.

Appearance. Crystal clear golden body with a good white head.

As the appearance suggests, this a very clean tasting Helles. It's also a bit sweeter than usual for the style; while this could be a detriment in some lagers, here it provides a good match for the other aspects of the flavor.

.5L can from the 2024 Costco holiday 24 pack. A June 25, 2025 Best By date is stamped on the bottom of the can.
